Getty Images has responded to concerns about its new $49 per image web resolution pricing scheme with a set of restrictions that is more palatable to organizations representing image creators.
The company announced on this date that, from now on, the $49 price for rights-managed and rights-ready licenses will be limited to digital images no larger than 180 by 150 pixels (roughly 160 kilobytes in size) with no upward interpolation allowed. The company also placed significant additional limitations on usage. A royalty-free version of the web resolution product remains unchanged.
At the same time, a Getty executive said the new web resolution pricing is "bringing in thousands of new customers," which was, he noted, the goal of the low-priced stock photography program.
