We're not imitating anybody," asserts moodboard chief executive Mike Watson. "We're innovating. Some things will work and some things will not."
Indeed, a tour of the moodboard website leaves one feeling that Watson and his staff of 15 really are pushing the limits of the stock photography envelope in a day when it seems that just about everything has already been tried.
The site includes four separate collections ranging from moodboard unlimited, a micropayment collection that lets image buyers set their own prices, to a rights-ready library that licenses no image for less than $225.
In between are two royalty-free collections –– one with midstock prices from $15 and another with more traditional royalty-free prices starting at $50. High resolution version of some royalty-free images can cost more than $1,000.
"We can sell images for many thousands of dollars and we can sell images for three dollars," said Watson. "I feel we can do both."
